Animism and Gaia
Animism is a belief that is held by many indigenous cultures and involves the belief that everything in nature has a spirit or soul. This includes not only animals and plants, but also natural phenomena such as mountains, rivers, and the land itself.
Gaia is a concept that originated in ancient Greek mythology. It refers to the personification of the Earth as a goddess, who is responsible for the well-being of the natural world and all the living things within it. The Gaia hypothesis, developed by James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis in the 1970s, suggests that the Earth's biosphere functions as a single self-regulating system, with the living organisms and their environment working together to maintain the conditions necessary for life on the planet. Some people see Gaia as a modern version of animism, with the Earth itself being seen as a living, conscious being.
