Valentine's Day Forest Bathing and Nature Connection Walk in Glen Coe Lochan

  • Glen Coe Lochan Ballachulish, Scotland, PH49 4HT United Kingdom (map)

Glencoe Lochan includes a stunning woodland surrounding the lochan (a small loch) which is located in a truly idyllic setting, just north of the village of Glencoe.  The woodland around Glencoe Lochan was planted in 1895 by Lord Strathcona, who was born in Scotland but emigrated to Canada at the age of 18. He returned several years later with his Canadian wife, Isabella, and they acquired the Glencoe Estate, but Isabella became increasingly homesick for her ancestral lands in Canada. In an attempt to reduce his wife's depression, Lord Strathcona had this forest painstakingly planted with trees native to North America to remind his wife of her homeland, and he granted it to her as a private refuge.

Glencoe Lochan is now managed by Forestry and Land Scotland.

Forest Bathing involves walking slowly and leisurely through the woodland, immersing yourself in the natural environment and mindfully using all your senses. People often find it physically, psychologically and emotionally beneficial to spend time bathing in the atmosphere of the trees.

This guided Forest Bathing walk will last between two and three hours, but in this time we only walk about a mile. During this time, Hugh (your Forest Bathing Guide) will periodically stop to offer Forest Bathing ‘Invitations’. These are activities intended to encourage you to connect with the natural world through your different senses, heightening your sensory awareness and increasing your nature-connection.

We end each walk with the Forest Bathing practice ‘Sit Spot’ and a Tea Ceremony with a cup of locally foraged tea.

The cost is £20 per couple and includes a complimentary copy of one of our Forest Bathing and Nature-Connection Booklets. The sun will set at about 5.20 so you can enjoy a romantic sunset afterwards if you want.

There is also the option to come by yourself if you want to though, and you still get the complimentary booklet too!
