The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity … and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.
- William Blake
Suggested Invitation for Day 19
Reciprocity with Trees
Today, once you have made yourself comfortable in your Sit Spot and sat for a few minutes, take a few moments to bring your awareness to the many benefits that trees can bring you and the reciprocal (mutually beneficial) relationship that we have with trees.
This might be visual pleasure, shelter or by bearing fruit. Take a few moments to notice the reciprocal relationships that we have with trees. The leaves of trees use sunlight, water and the carbon dioxide they absorb to make plant sugars and at the same time they release oxygen. Take a few deep breaths, breathe in the oxygen that you need to live and breathe out the carbon dioxide that the trees need to live.
The appreciation of nature and this reciprocal relationship is an important part of the wider practice of Forest Bathing.
